Boost to children's health with million kroner funding for home economics
Children must learn better cooking skills. Food Culture, the country's professional high schools and a number of home economics teachers are therefore intensifying efforts to ensure better food for the next generation.
Funding of 6.45 million kr. from the Nordea Fund over the next three years will enable the partners to provide supplementary training for home economics teachers, implement innovative educational courses and hold annual Danish Championship in Home Economics for several thousand pupils from all over country.
In Denmark not even two children in every hundred are regularly responsible for cooking at home. In this way Danish children run the risk of missing out on some of the most basic human skills which come with taking part in shopping, preparation and trends in food, and learning about food quality, taste and aesthetics, as well as being able to balance economics, time, health and sustainability.
Based on experiences from a successful pilot project, also funded by the Nordea Fund, Food Culture and the professional high schools are now launching Madkamp – DM i Hjemkundskab (Food Fight - Danish Championships in Home Economics). The project ’Madkamp – DM i hjemkundskab’ will help to increase visibility and positioning of home economics as a subject of vital importance for happiness, health and sustainability.
