Government programme gives boost to organic and locally-produced food

27-05-2013

The Finnish government has decided in principle on a programme of developing the eco-industry and a programme for developing the local food sector.

These programmes help to achieve the government's objectives with regard to increasing the production of organic and local food and to increase the processing of the products.

The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Jari Koskinen, is pleased that local and organic food has been given its own development programme that is being worked out jointly by the authorities and the industry sectors.
"More and more people want to eat organic and locally produced food. It is important that the government respects people's likings and taste and actively works to improve the range of organic and local food. These programmes are concrete proof of this and I want them also send a strong signal to industry", says minister Koskinen.
