Arendal week Teach children to make simple food with a Nordic twist

04-08-2013

Food and cooking enriches life in every way, for our children too. This year's Arendal Week organised cooking classes for children to help make cooking a social meeting place which spreads happiness, excitement and creativity for the whole family. Every child in the Nordic countries has the right to learn to cook tasty and healthy food.

In the cooking classes the children learned how to make simple good food using fresh and colourful Nordic ingredients. The course was run by Margit Vea, well-known for writing books and running courses on food for children since the middle of the 90s.

Vea is concerned that children's food should taste good, and at the same time be healthy and look tempting. She works to help children grow up with real food on the table, get a taste for pure ingredients and have a love of good food.

"If children were given the choice, they would do more cooking. Children need to act, to understand how to handle and use ingredients, make, be creative, and use all their senses," says Vea.

The course is sponsored by New Nordic Food II, the Nordic Region in Focus and the Nordic Information Office.
