NNF II organises workshop in Greenland

27-04-2014

New Nordic Food II and the Department of Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture will co-host a workshop in Greenland on 11-12 May. The aim is to share Nordic and, particularly Ålandic experiences, to reinforce the focus on food in Greenland.

Nordic synergy is extremely valuable because it allows many Nordic neighbours to share experiences and give good advice to others in a Nordic network.

Åland has an extremely important role to play. It is comparable to Greenland in terms of population size, so the focus and approach can be transferred directly.

- In Åland we have been focusing attention on food for a long time, for example at the Harvest Festival which is very popular. We also have an Ålandic reference group for New Nordic Food which works actively to create events where food producers and chefs can meet. We want to share our experiences with Greenland and promote what has has been successful, highlighted Lena Brenner, Rural Developer, Åland's Rural Centre, New Nordic Food.

The workshop has several objectives. Partly to attract the attention of the political leadership in Greenland to what the other Nordic countries can do and have achieved with their focus on food.

Partly, based on the combined experience in the region, NNF wants to help to build a network and draw up a proposal for an action plan for carrying on the work in Greenland.
